Terms of Use

Last updated: 4 November 2026

1. Who we are

PlotScroll is provided by Alex Lee, a sole trader trading as PlotScroll, Office 22224, 182–184 High Street North, East Ham, London E6 2JA, United Kingdom ("PlotScroll", "we", "us"). Contact: support@plotscroll.app.

By downloading or using PlotScroll you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

2. What PlotScroll is

PlotScroll lets you read classic books in short sessions of a few minutes. Some books ("free reads") can be read in full without paying. A subscription opens the whole library.

You must be at least 13 to use PlotScroll. Some books are only shown to readers who confirm in the app that they are 18 or over; by doing so you confirm that this is true.

3. Subscriptions and free trials

4. The books, and what's ours

The texts of the books in PlotScroll are in the public domain where they are made available to you: we only show a book where its author and translator are out of copyright in your country. Availability can differ between countries.

The PlotScroll app, its design, the book covers and artwork, the way books are divided into sessions, the recaps, the summaries, and our own translations (including The Metamorphosis, The Trial, The Castle and The Phantom of the Opera) are owned by PlotScroll and protected by copyright and other laws. We give you a personal, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app and read the books in it for your own private, non-commercial enjoyment.

You must not: copy, scrape, download in bulk, republish or sell our translations, covers, sessions or other content; try to get around the subscription, the age setting or the country restrictions; reverse-engineer the app or our servers except as the law allows; or use the app in any way that is unlawful or harms the service or other people.

5. Your data

How we handle personal data is explained in our Privacy Policy at plotscroll.app/privacy. In short: what you read stays on your phone, there are no accounts and no adverts.

6. Reminders

If you turn on reminders, the app schedules notifications on your phone at the time you choose. You can change or turn them off at any time.

7. Changes to PlotScroll and to these terms

We are always improving PlotScroll. We may add, change or remove books and features, for example where a book's rights status changes. We will not take away what you have paid for during a paid period without good reason; if we stop providing PlotScroll altogether, we will tell you in advance where we can.

We may update these terms. If a change is significant we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use PlotScroll after that means you accept the new terms.

8. Our responsibility to you

We provide PlotScroll with reasonable care and skill. Nothing in these terms limits your rights as a consumer under UK law (for example under the Consumer Rights Act 2015), or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be excluded by law.

Otherwise, we are not responsible for losses that were not foreseeable, for loss of data you have chosen to delete, or for problems caused by your device, your internet connection or events outside our reasonable control. If we are found liable to you, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us for PlotScroll in the 12 months before the claim.

9. Ending your use

You can stop using PlotScroll at any time by deleting the app (and cancelling any subscription as described above). We may suspend or end your access if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms.

10. Apple

These terms are between you and PlotScroll, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for PlotScroll or its content, and has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for it. If PlotScroll fails to meet any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple may refund the purchase price; to the extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation. Apple is not responsible for addressing any claims relating to PlotScroll, including product liability claims, claims that it fails to meet legal or regulatory requirements, or consumer-protection claims. If a third party claims that PlotScroll infringes their intellectual property, PlotScroll, not Apple, is responsible for dealing with it. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. You confirm that you are not in a country subject to a US Government embargo or on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.

11. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the UK or in the EU, you also keep the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of where you live, and you can bring proceedings in your local courts. If you have a problem, please contact us first at support@plotscroll.app. We would much rather put it right.
